Natural Resources Management (NRM) Officer to join our team of the WWF
Mozambique
Organization Overview
WWF Mozambique is seeking a dedicated Natural
Resources Management (NRM) Officer to be based in the Zambezi Delta and
Marromeu. Mozambique faces significant challenges related to climate change,
experiencing an increasing frequency of cyclones, storms, and other extreme
weather events. The Zambezi Delta is particularly vulnerable, enduring
extensive damage to infrastructure, biodiversity, and local communities.
Despite these challenges, Mozambique is one of the
most biodiverse countries globally, boasting critical forest, freshwater, and
marine ecosystems. The Zambezi Delta, for example, is home to the largest
mangrove forest in Mozambique and the second-largest continuous mangrove
habitat in Africa. It is an internationally recognized Important Bird Area
(IBA), supporting diverse species such as buffalo, elephants, lions, and
various migratory birds. These ecosystems play a crucial role in the local,
regional, and national economy by providing vital ecological goods and
services.
However, these natural assets are increasingly under
threat due to climate change, habitat degradation, pollution, overexploitation
of wildlife, and large-scale infrastructure projects. Implementing Nature-Based
Solutions (NbS) is essential to mitigate these effects and promote sustainable
development in areas like the Zambezi Delta.
Role Overview
To support its mission and activities on the ground,
WWF Mozambique is recruiting an experienced and motivated Natural Resources
Management Officer. The ideal candidate will assist in implementing field
projects, particularly in the Zambezi Delta, under the WWF Mozambique 2020-2030
